epic friday

It’s been a while since I blogged music on a friday, so here’s some to enjoy this weekend.
A friend recently gave me the latest Sigur Ros CD, called “med sud i eyrum vid spilum endalaust,” which has caused a bit of a Sigur Ros revival around these parts. The music is sweeping and beautiful and reminds me of how I’d like to live my life — painted in washes of pure colors, as though my every experience, feeling and thought could be projected through Stanton MacDonald-Wright’s synchrome kineidoscope. It’s a bit melodramatic, sure. But to my ears, it’s one of the few places where reality meets promise.

I get the same feeling from the latest Radiohead CD, “In Rainbows.” The title reminds me of a particularly enchanted afternoon toward the end of last summer and the music hits me hard in my 21st century emotional core. It feels a lot like how I remember Nitzer Ebb feeling when I was 15, only, I guess, more twenty-years-later. Is this what the kids are listening to these days?
