november

This column by Bob Herbert in today’s New York Times pretty much sums up my feelings about this November’s election.
“The table is set for the Democrats. Nearly all the issues are lined up in their favor. The national economy has cratered. The war in Iraq, after all these years, is still not going well. The Republicans have chosen a candidate who is neither charismatic nor inspirational, and who certainly does not represent change in what has shaped up to be a change election.
If ever there was a race tailor-made for the Democratic Party, this is it.”
The quotes from Clinton and Obama supporters are telling, as even the racists can’t see themselves voting for McCain in the Fall. And despite the slapped-on, house-divided, doomsday ending — Herbert even invokes Hubert Humphrey — the point’s made. Factor in the latest fundraising numbers (March, 2008: GOP: $15 million; Dems: $60 million) and a picture starts coming into focus.
So here’s a prediction. Unless he’s assassinated (which I also very much doubt will happen), I’m going to go with Obama over McCain by 30 points in November. Democrats win 60 in the Senate and, despite reassurances otherwise, we’re still in Iraq in 2012. Then, as we all know, the world ends.
