what a dollar gets you

New York-based visual artist David Horvitz has a collection of direct action art projects that you can commission and fund. He’s taking a “many little hands” approach to his livelihood, it seems, by offering lots of small ways we can support him rather than just large, cumbersome things for sale. I realized, quite unknowingly, that I’m already a fan of David’s work — for Christmas last year, my wife gave me a copy of his excellent book of polaroids documenting the band Xiu Xiu.
His “If” page of reminds me of the Craigslist interview project I did a number of years ago in New York, only with a more immediate benefit to both him and his audience (my tape never did air anywhere and I never did send copies of the raw interviews to the people I said I would).
He has another project, called 366 Skies, which amazes me with its simplicity and beauty. You can sign up for the daily emails or pay to have him send you a stack of skies.
